Visual Testimony
When Suad Smo was captured by ISIS in 2014, she was still a young girl. Like her cousin Amera, she found a way to process the unprocessable: she drew.
In captivity and in the years since, Suad has created artwork that bears witness to the Yezidi genocide in ways that words sometimes cannot. Her pieces capture:
- The fragmentation of memory and identity under trauma
- The weight of grief for those who are gone and those still missing
- The persistence of hope even in darkness
- The long, non-linear journey of healing
